June Christy remplace Anita O’Day dans l’orchestre de Stan Kenton en 1945. En 1946, 1947, 1948 et 1950, elle est élue « best female vocalist with a big band » par Down Beat. Son premier album solo, Something Cool (1953-1955), dirigé et arrangé par Pete Rugolo est un classique du jazz cool et un chef d’oeuvre de sensualité. Les deux CD de cet album couvrent les douze années essentielles de la carrière de June et montrent tour à tour la chaleur d’une voix mélodieuse et sensuelle dans les balades, la maîtrise et le rythme dans les titres up tempo.
